Helen holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts Diploma in Education with Dean’s Merit List for Academic Excellence. She is a passionate, experienced Visual Arts, Ceramics and Photo Digital Media teacher whose tenure has spanned over 28 years. Helen has taught HSC Visual Arts for the last 23 years, with many students being nominated and exhibited in ArtExpress. She has built and sustained a significant high candidature in the Visual Arts which is a reflection of the quality, rigour and robustness of her programs by constantly embedding new and changing pedagogy and content knowledge.
Helen has been involved in curriculum development and has been on the NESA Higher School Certificate (HSC) Exam Committee and the Performance descriptors works samples committee, this has been backed by her experience as HSC Senior Marker.
She believes that a catholic education offers “something more’. The ‘something more’ focuses on developing lifelong learners who are highly successful, joyful and spirited, curious and reflective and who are inspired to use their gifts. Helen is committed to knowing and understanding the learning needs of every student and ensuring that they experience success and are able to practice their own autonomy. The gospel values of love, compassion, justice, forgiveness underpin these efforts to shape young women and men who will live lives of meaning and purpose.
Helen understands the emotional glue of any culture is adaptability, intent, change and a shared direction. She emulates visible leadership – not only physical but available – providing respectful structured learning environments for all learners. Helen prides on her success by instilling in students a sense of belonging and pride, building the classroom of dreams!
